Dear students,

Starting from 2016, our department has been engaged to a 30% English curriculum. The students successfully completed the English preparation class can start 4 yrs. graduate program. Students need to complete at least a total of 151 credits (240 AKTS) to graduate. Classes are classified as electives and mandatory courses, and some classes have prerequisites.

The details of the Geophysical Engineering B.Sc. courses can be found in İÜC-EBS.

Course Plans:

  • For the details of Turkish curriculum: click here

For the course prerequisites: click here

  1. To be able to take courses with prerequisites, it will be to our students’ interest to hold a GPA of at least 1.8 and not repeat the semester. Otherwise, students may not be able to take these courses until a future semester, which may lead to delay in graduation.
  2. The course prerequisites must be met to be able to apply to field camp and company internships
  3. The corresponding credit of the “Career Planning” course, which is recently added in the 4th year of the 2020-2021 course plans, will be excluded from the graduation credits.

For the other subjects that may interest our students:

  • İÜC regularizations on education
  • İÜC academic calendar

In the İstanbul University-Cerrahpaşa Geophysical Engineering Department four laboratories are present. These are;

  1. Assoc.Prof.Dr. Yılmaz İspir Paleomagnetism Laboratory

  1. Geophysical Measurements Laboratory

  1. Seismology Laboratory

  1. Seismic Data Processing Laboratory

İstanbul University-Cerrahpaşa Engineering Faculty, Geophysical Engineering Dpt. Seismic Data Processing Laboratory started activity in 2017 with the support of Turkish Petroleum to process and interpret seismic reflection, side scan sonar, CHIRP, and multibeam bathymetry data.

The laboratory is opened with the attendance of the assistant deans Prof.Dr. İsmail İnci and Dr. Muhammed Ali Aydın, head of Geology Dpt. Prof.Dr. Hayrettin Koral, head of Geophysics Dpt. Prof.Dr. Z. Mümtaz Hisarlı, faculty secretary Nusret Sarısakal, academic staff, assitants, and students.

Starting from 2017, our laboratory has been performing studies for the processing, analysis, and interpretation of land and marine seismic data.

In the laboratory,

PARADIGM ECHOS 2D-3D seismic processing software

Computers with Linux and Windows operating systems

In our laboratory, near surface and deep seismic data collected on land and marine environments are processed and interpreted using the latest methods. The laboratory infrastructure is also suitable to process other geophysical and geological data.

We thank to EMERSON-PARADIGM and SEISSPACE PROMAX for granting their Echos seismic data processing software and Geodepth Migration and Velocity Modeling software packages and Promax software. We also thank to Turkish Petroleum for their hardware support.
